A New Cardigan to Knit
The crisp mornings and evenings of Autumn are here. Slowly I find myself reaching for more of my handknits - first a pair of socks, another day might call for a shawl, then on another I find myself pulling on a woolly jumper.
I’ve been slowly building up my handmade wardrobe each year, as. a new garment or two joins the others each season. The gaps in my wardrobe are ever so slowly closing. This weekend I cast on a new garment - a fingering weight cardigan, and I can hardly wait to wear it.
This cardigan is Libby Jonson’s latest design - Dolly. It features ‘rosebuds’ made of bobbles and simple slipped stitch colourwork across the yoke. I chose silvery grey for the main colour of my cardigan as I think this will coordinate with most other pieces in my wardrobe.
The colourwork features gentle green and sweet mulberry; these two hues combine to add a touch of vintage charm. I’m only a little way into the yoke and already it’s hard to put this project down. The pure merino wool is soft and cosy beneath my hands and, as is always the way with colourwork, it’s very easy to keep doing ‘just one more row…’
Along with knitting on my Dolly Cardigan, I’m also preparing an exciting new project. The Bookish Knitter’s Society is coming soon, and I’ll be back shortly with a blog post all about it.
Until then it’s time to enjoy another row or two on my cardigan.
How about you? Are you feeling inspired to add to your handmade wardrobe as the weather cools? Perhaps #memademay has you reaching for your handmade pieces?
