The Bookish Knitter's Society

Whenever I’m working on something new - a knitting pattern, or a special club - it’s very hard to keep it all under my hat. As soon as the project begins to take shape I want to share it with you all.

Last Friday I was finally able to share what I’ve been working on for several months. I’ve been so excited about this from the very start that it turns out I was actually a little nervous when the time came to announce it!

The Bookish Knitter’s Society is my new yarn club come book club - a cosy knit along combined with a book club, with a few other delightful things thrown in for good measure. I announced it on Friday evening and have been blown away by the response!

I’ve created the Bookish Knitter’s Society to combine two things I really love - knitting and reading. I also love hosting - and know so many of you enjoy - knit alongs, as you can join in no matter where you are. It’s fun to enjoy that shared sense of community, just knowing that we’re all working on the same project at the same time.
And the Bookish Knitter’s Society is taking that to a whole new level.

I designed the Winter Star Cowl specifically for the Society. I wanted to make a cosy project that was interesting to knit without being complicated. I love the texture of star stitch and it became the perfect stitch for this cowl. It’s long enough to loop around your neck twice, giving lots of warmth and also sitting beautifully as a stylish accessory.
I knit my first Winter Star Cowl holding a strand of lace weight mohair silk together with 4ply. This version is very luxurious, with the glimmer and delightful drape of the silk combined with the soft bounce of the merino.

The second cowl I made using a single strand of 8ply merino. This cowl is also lovely and soft, with a definite cosiness to it. The stitch definition is crisper in pure merino and the finished cowl can be dressed up or down.

Of course, the Bookish Knitter’s Society is about more than knitting. It’s about enjoying the ritual of knitting, and the cosiness that surrounds it - and enjoying it in the company of other knitters, however far away they may be. The kits include delicious tea from the Berry Tea Shop and a set of 4 notecards from The Darling Fig.

I’ve selected Rhys Bowen’s Her Royal Spyness as our book for Volume 1 of the Society. I love this series - it contains everything a good story needs - wit, romance and mystery, presented by an author who knows how to write a great story. If you enjoy series such as Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Downton Abbey, you’ll love these books.

If you’d like to join the Bookish Knitter’s Society we’d love to have you! There is a place for everyone with four different options to join. You can choose your option and find out all of the info here.
We officially start on the 21st of May.

A copy of the book isn’t included with the Society, and I chose to do this for a few reasons. You may already have a copy and if not, you’re free to choose to get your copy from the library, your local book store or online. You might even choose an audiobook!
If you’re looking for somewhere to purchase it online, BookTopia is the best for Australia and New Zealand. They’re a local company and have a great range.
