Quick, Last Minute Projects to Knit and Gift

With less than 10 days until Christmas, I thought I’d share some lovely last-minute gift ideas. These are genuinely quick to make and might be just the thing if you’re looking to add a handmade touch to your gifts this year.

If you don’t need to knit these by Christmas you can find the yarn + kits for all of these patterns also in the shop, online or in-store at Noosa.

1 / Tea Mouse

Experienced knitters could complete one of these in a matter of hours (it takes me 2!). If your time isn’t available in a block, you can easily make a Tea Mouse in a weekend or over a few evenings.

Yarn: Knit with less than 25g of DK/8ply yarn, you’ve likely already got the yarn in your stash! You could also knit a smaller mouse by using finer yarn and smaller needles, like Amanda did here.

Get the pattern PDF here (you’ll have the option to add the pattern straight to your Ravelry library after purchase).
You can also find it on Ravelry here.

2 / Maple Infinity Scarf

This chunky scarf can be knit in a weekend or 3-4 evenings. Holding 2 strands of DK/8ply yarn double and using 6mm needles makes Maple a fast and cosy knit!

Yarn: You’ll need 200g of DK/8ply yarn per scarf

Get the pattern PDF here (you’ll have the option to add the pattern straight to your Ravelry library after purchase).
You can also find it on Ravelry here.

PS If you don’t need to knit this by Christmas you can also find kits in the shop! They feature the silky soft pure merino I used in the original design. Find them here.

3 / Marmalade Tea Cosy

You can easily knit one of these in a weekend and the best thing is that the pattern includes instructions for sizing for ANY sized teapot!
Pair the finished cosy with a lovely tin of tea for a thoughtful gift.

Yarn: For most teapots you’ll only need 100g of DK/8ply yarn.

Get the pattern PDF here (you’ll have the option to add the pattern straight to your Ravelry library after purchase).
You can also find it on Ravelry here.

PS If you don’t need to knit this by Christmas you can also find kits in the shop! They feature the yarn I used in the original design + delicious tea. Find them here.

4 / Peckish (the little hen)

Peckish sits in the palm of your hand and knits up quickly in 8ply/DK yarn. You can easily make Peckish in a few evenings.

Yarn: You only need a small amount of DK/8ply yarn for the body, and even less for the colourwork contrast, beak and comb (a great stash project!).

Get the pattern PDF here (you’ll have the option to add the pattern straight to your Ravelry library after purchase).
You can also find it on Ravelry here.

5 / Ridged Coffee Cup Cosy

Probably the quickest of the quick! These cosies knit up fast in 10ply/Aran weight yarn. Pair them with a beautiful reusable coffee cup for a thoughtful gift.

Yarn: You only need a small amount of 10ply/Aran weight yarn per cosy.

Get the pattern PDF here (you’ll have the option to add the pattern straight to your Ravelry library after purchase).
You can also find it on Ravelry here.

6 / Cosy Home Coasters

The textured stitch on the Coaster mimics the texture of woven textiles. It’s simple to knit and gives a great finish. Work a set in solid colours or mix and match in fun colour blocking.
Knit a set in a weekend (or an evening if you’re an experienced knitter!).

Yarn: You’ll need a small amount of DK/8ply yarn per coaster. Multiple colours are optional. I used Organic Cotton + Nettles + Wool for my coasters, but if you have a ball or two of pure cotton in your stash that would also be great.

Get the pattern PDF here (you’ll have the option to add the pattern straight to your Ravelry library after purchase).
You can also find it on Ravelry here.

7 / Mug Cosies

Just like the Coffee Cup Cosy above, mug cosies are super quick to knit! Browse my collection of patterns here. If you’re new to colourwork, start with the Darling Dots Cosy. It’s ideal for new colourwork knitters!

I hope this list has given you some ideas, not just for Christmas, but for gift knitting all year round! Giving someone something you’ve taken the time to make by hand is such a special thing.
