Animal Rearing & Self-Sufficiency

Backyard Poulty - Naturally by Alanna Moore
This book was the first poultry book we ever purchased and has remained the only poultry care book on our shelf. It's brilliant for the beginner through to the experienced poultry keeper, and is one of the few natural poultry books written for Australian poultry keepers that I have come across.

The Permaculture Home Garden by Linda Woodrow
I've found it hard to find practical gardening books written for the Australian growing climate. This one is written in a clear, interesting manner and is one I am always reaching for. Our entire gardening-with-chickens system is based on the methods outlined in this book.

Living The Good Life by Linda Cockburn
An enjoyable read about one family's experiment of living for 6 months solely from their surburban block without spending a dollar.

Natural Farming & Natural Sheep Care by Pat Coleby
I consider these books to be essential for anyone who wants to raise animals in a healthy, organic manner whether for large scale farming or the half acre block. Pat Coleby writes in a clear, easy to read manner and explains how vitamins and minerals form the base for both soil and animal health and productivity.
