My Bellingen Knitting Workshop

My shawl knitting workshop was on Saturday afternoon, and what a great afternoon it turned out to be. It was lovely walking into

Cedar

and seeing the beautiful room set up ready for the workshop. I got busy unpacking everyone's kits, and putting out the selection of yarn I brought with me along with many knitted things to use as samples. Megan (of

Dolly Henry

) came along to help me, and to take photos, and she was a wonderful assistant. Not only did she take heaps of lovely photos (which I've tried to go sparingly on in this post, but might have failed!), she did everything from help to keep the workshop running smoothly to arranging the flowers.

This is the first workshop I have taught and I couldn't be happier with the results. Everyone left with big smiles on their faces at the end of the day, so I'll take that as a sign that everyone had a good time! There was lots to learn for many, and they did a wonderful job with persisting through the trickier parts to eventually get the hang of it and have their shawl growing beneath their hands.

After showing everyone the finished sample of the shawl we were making, we pretty much got straight to work and enjoyed a productive full three hours of knitting. I spent a lot of time going from person to person to instruct and help where it was needed.

To be able to share my love of knitting with others is a real privilege, and to be able to help other enthusiastic knitters along on their journey was wonderful too. Along with lots and lots of knitting, a beautiful afternoon tea was had with a gorgeous spread of scones with jam and cream, and some delicious gluten-free bliss balls and fudge slice. All of this was laid out in a buffet-style so everyone could help themselves.

Seeing as I've filled this post up with so many photos, I won't write too many more words.

I only want to say thank you to everyone who came along, and I'm so proud of everyone's efforts and how much they all learned. Some were more experienced so only needed a little help here and there, but there were quite a few participants who were really new to knitting, and they did a marvellous job!

Everyone learnt lots of new techniques, some learnt new cast on methods, and we also talked about the differences between superwash and organic wool, how to finish off your shawl nicely and we even touched lightly on garment knitting. It was great fun!

I'm already looking forward to teaching my

next workshop in May

, and my mind is brimming over with ideas for other workshops. I can hardly wait!
