Cast Off | Feather Stitch Sweater
Casting off a garment project has to be one of the best feelings in the world, topped only by the joy of trying that garment on to discover a perfect fit and style you're happy with.
I spent the Easter long weekend knitting the final sleeve of this jumper (I know it's called a sweater in the pattern, but we say jumper in Australia), then assembling all the pieces into something wearable.
This project is one that I have loved from the moment I started it. I'm so glad that I made the decision to unravel my intarsia cardigan and change to knitting this jumper instead. It was a lot of fun to knit, whilst being relaxing and very easy. Even though it's worked in fingering weight yarn, because it's a lace pattern you use a 3.75mm needle, so it was quite quick to work up.
While I was knitting this jumper, I thought I'd make my next garment project in DK weight yarn for something speedier. But I really love the finish of 4ply garments when it comes to wearing them - the thinner yarn leaves more room for slower, detailed shaping, which I think gives a really nice finish. And as for speed - I knitted the back of this jumper in a week, the front took me the same length of time, and the sleeves were only a day's worth of knitting each (spread over a couple of days). I couldn't really have asked for anything quicker, and if I hadn't had such a big break from knitting this due to moving interstate, I probably would have had it finished in a month.
This will definitely become my favourite winter jumper. I love the colour, the feel and also that I made it myself. The length is perfect, too, something I kept an eye on while knitting it after my Clara Bow Sweater was a tad too short to be perfect. I think I may just make a second Feather Stitch Sweater at some point, I'd love to have another in a different colour.
Project Details:
Pattern: Feather Stitch Sweater from Knit Vintage
I was between sizes so knitted the medium. I don't like very fitted clothing though, so being a tiny bit bigger is my preference.
Yarn: WOOLganic Merino 4ply in the colour Krishna
I allowed seven balls to match the meterage of the pattern but used about five and a half balls.
