Knitting Speckles

Speckles are something that's very popular in yarn at the moment, and it's easy to see why.
I've sort of created my own speckle for this project, using two strands of yarn at once, but using two different colourways too. In most projects and patterns that require knitting with more than one strand of yarn, the same yarn is used so that you only create a thicker fabric, but not a different colour.

I think I've mentioned before that I adore knitting with two strands at once. It creates a cuddliness to the fabric that wouldn't otherwise be there - even though I could probably achieve the same or a similar gauge to what I am getting at the moment with two strands of fingering weight, with a single strand of DK yarn, the fabric wouldn't have the same feel.

For this project, I'm using a lightly speckled yarn along with a variegated pink blend. (Both are hand dyed, 100% Australian grown/made yarn and are available here in my shop).
I'm knitting them into a hot water bottle cover for an upcoming birthday. This is the first hot water bottle cover I've made, and whilst I originally intended to use a pattern I have found myself going solo. If it turns out alright I may have to write up the pattern!
I'm knitting in the round using the magic loop method. I'm so glad I tried this method this year, it's much easier than working with DPNs. Once I'm past the first few rounds I don't feel like the danger of twisting my work is as high, and so I relax and really enjoy knitting this way. It's pretty much the same as working flat as there are only two needles to juggle.

I'm so in love with the colours and the delicious softness of the knitted fabric. I'm very excited to get this finished! I'm nearly at the end of my knitting list of projects constricted by dates so soon I will be able to return to knitting my intarsia cardigan which has been hibernating for over a month now! This also means that I'll have a new beanie design to share with you very soon!

What are you working on at the moment?
Are you in love with speckled yarn too?

Happy creating!
