Autumn 2017

I had my suspicions that Autumn was arriving - aside from the fact that today it is technically the first day of Autumn, the weather was telling me that this season was actually planning on turning up on time. And then I spotted it - a little leaf on the grapevine that had turned the most gorgeous autumny orange. The joy that the sight of that leaf gave me is probably a little crazy. But you have to understand - I live in a subtropical area. In my heart I'm far more of a cold weather girl than a tropical person. There are barely any deciduous plants around here, so the idea of having one growing on my own chicken pen made me pretty happy.
To be honest, I've never really given the grapevine much thought, until just recently. It's got several rather large bunches of grapes growing on it. I've never grown grapes before, and I have no idea whether these ones will taste all right or not but I am excited none the less.

As if to mark the change in season here, this morning it was chilly enough for me to get out my chocolate shrug and pull on a pair of socks. My first yarn order for the year arrived in the mail, which I will hopefully share more about with you later. This parcel is more exciting than any other parcel of yarn, at least for me, and that's all I'm saying for now.

I will continue to soak up every gorgeous drop of the coming months, my favourite time of the year. The light will become golden, the grass will go to seed (some of it is already starting) and the garden will become easier to manage.

Oh, I do love autumn!
